Kevorkian Dead at 83

Dr. Death, also known as Jack Kevorkian, died Friday of a kidney related illness. The good doctor is reported to have successfully killed 130 of his patients between 1990 and 1999.

Kevorkian was once quoted as saying, “My intent was to carry out my duty as a doctor, to end their suffering. Unfortunately, that entailed, in their cases, ending of the life.”

While other doctors agreed that killing one’s patient was a sure way to end their suffering, they suggested attempting to heal as a better approach to the problem.

In an unrelated story, William “Bill” Reynolds, also known as “Mr. Bible,” died recently. He was 87. After serving in the Marines, in 1951, Reynolds began selling books and in the decades that followed sold Bibles for three different companies. He reportedly prayed with everyone to whom he sold a Bible.

After he retired, he volunteered as a part-time worker in the Bible department of a Christian bookstore and later worked as a chaplain, visiting shut-ins and leading Bible studies in the Los Angeles County jails.

CBA Executive Director Curtis Riskey said of Reynolds: “He took his work as a Christian retailer as a holy calling, and he found great joy in connecting people to God’s Word. His ministry work outside of the store transformed many lives…”

Although he never obtained the moniker “Dr. Bible,” Mr. Bible appears to have been more skilled at saving lives than Dr. Death. GS
