What God Expects From You At Work—Part 4

Back to Work SignThe third imperative is that you do your work empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Working empowered by the Holy Spirit ensures God’s presence in your work.

Non-Christians can do ethical work. Non-Christians can do excellent work.

But non-Chrisitans cannot do work empowered by the Holy Spirit. Their work is not infused with the Spirit of God because they do not have the Spirit of God. Therefore, working empowered by the Holy Spirit sets the work of Christians apart from the work of non-Christians.

An example of working empowered by the Holy Spirit is found in the Old Testament in the creativity exhibited by Bezalel, God’s interior designer for the temple. See Exodus 35:30-35. Another example was Othniel, whose work as a judge was empowered by the Holy Spirit. See Judges 3:9-10.

Of course, in the Old Testament, the presence of the Holy Spirit was solely at the discretion of God. Today, Christians, filled with the Holy Spirit always have the opportunity to work empowered by the Holy Spirit. Whether they do depends in large part on whether they choose to be led by Holy Spirit or by their flesh i.e. their natural talent and hard-wired natural tendencies.

In summary, the three principles of Christian work are that:

1.  Working ethically establishes God’s will in your work.

2.  Working excellently achieves God’s purpose in your work.

3.  Working empowered by the Holy Spirit ensures God’s presence in your work.

Now get to work. GS
