The Conscience Of A Nation

I get the call once a year, and the script is always the same. Two days ago there was a twist.

When the American Bar Association called to ask me to join, I told them the same thing I’ve told them for the past twenty years: “I’m not going to be part of an organization that supports abortion.” That usually ends the conversation.

This year was different. The ABA representative replied, “The ABA supports the law, and the right to an abortion has been the law since Roe v. Wade.”

I said, “Oh really; so I guess the ABA would have supported slavery when it was the law?”

These are the kinds of arguments secular organizations are left with in defending the indefensible position of abortion rights. I’ve blogged before on why abortion should be illegal, and no Bible references are necessary. It’s common sense.  Yet, a group like the ABA that prides itself on reason can’t get it right.

This just goes to show that Christians cannot and should not rely on secular organizations, whether it be the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association, to be the conscience of America, or any country.

If you are a citizen of the kingdom of God, King Jesus is looking to you to be the conscience of your nation. GS
