But when it came to sex and marriage, his wisdom came not from reason but the hard way, from experience…a lot of experience.
You see Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines.
And not just that, but he loved many foreign women: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian and Hittite women.
He even had the daughter of Pharaoh.
Solomon had so many exotic women it would make [the original] Captain Kirk blush.
And yet, after all that, here is what the wisest and no doubt one of the most “experienced” men had to say about marital fidelity:
“Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth. As a loving hind and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; be exhilarated always with her love. For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress and embrace the bosom of a foreigner?” (Prov. 5:18-20).
You don’t have to drive over a cliff to know it’s a bad idea. If common sense is not enough, rely on the advice of someone who has already done it. GS
